When you decrease distractions, it helps you stay focused on your awareness so you can more powerfully connect to your inner awareness.

Does this sound familiar? Do you tend to overwork or have a work addiction? I did. I used to work 80-plus hours each week. Before I knew it, more work kept piling up on my desk. I remember being totally exhausted and wondering - how on earth am I going to get through all of this work?

What I know now that I didn’t know then…

Two different research studies determined that individuals who experienced trauma were prone to workaholic behaviors. These are a 2013 study of trauma survivors of childhood sexual abuse and a 2015 study of women survivors of intimate partner violence.

Could this explain why I was working so much?

I felt like I was simply existing. And, as far as the pain and suffering that I felt inside, I used work to distract me from it. It wasn’t until I began my transformation and took steps toward beyond simply existing that I found ways to decrease distractions in my life. And yes, that meant cutting back on the hours I worked.

What kind of distractions do you believe may keep you from beginning your transformation and stop suffering now?
