Feeling Distracted? You Can Stop Suffering Now!

When you decrease distractions, it helps you stay focused on your awareness so you can more powerfully connect to your inner awareness.

Expanding your awareness about distractions in your life is simply being conscious of what you do, what you experience, how you react, and what that reaction means to show you. Can you see how this step from my program will help you open your mind and expand your awareness?

Life is full of distractions. We all face challenges in our day-to-day life where we are tempted to lose focus and things come up that delay or hinder our success. For trauma survivors, these challenges are multiplied, leading to even more suffering. It is important to pay attention and shift from distracting thoughts. Otherwise these distractions – whether good or bad - will get in the way of our connectedness to our higher power, whatever or whoever that is for you.

Distractions can make us feel stuck, frustrated and unable to find joy and happiness. And sometimes these distractions can trip us up without us even noticing. Did you know that they can be so subtle and we can be so used to them showing up in our life that we don’t recognize them for the obstacle that they are? And then sometimes, when we finally have a moment to think at the end of the day, we often find that we start to judge ourselves and beat ourselves up over being so easily distracted.

I don’t want this for you.

I want you to notice your distractions, but be gentle with yourself, remembering that we are all a work in progress.  That’s what we’re doing here together.  We are taking the steps we need to move forward. As you become much more aware of when you are becoming distracted, you can – in the moment – address the distraction.  You can say to yourself something funny like, “Very sneaky the way you were trying to get me to watch TV instead of write in my journal, but I’m onto you!  I’m going to turn off the TV and turn my attention back to my journal which I committed to writing in.”

Can you see that by taking these small steps we can begin to avoid distractions that derail our well-intentioned plans to move forward in life?

What small step can you taking to decrease distractions and stop suffering now?
